How can I be responsible for the action of somebody
else?
That is the question that they keep asking me and that
is the question that I keep on avoiding.
For one, I am not responsible for the action of another individual. It is really very silly and stupid. If somebody killed somebody, that has got
nothing to do with me.
The killings, the murder and the massacre that
transpires in the Middle East and Eastern Europe have got nothing to do with
the local killing here in the Philippines.
When Cain retorted back to God, am I my brother’s keeper? It really was a classic response that up to
now, people are still echoing the response.
When there is a displacement of millions of people
because of civil war in Syria, and untold misery are happening to innocent
civilians – we ask ourselves, what have this got to do with us, Filipinos? We are oceans away, separated by mountains,
culture, language, and even by the very color of our skin. They got their own problem and we got our own
problem as well.
Why should it bother me that they are killing one
another for no other reason other than having supported the opposing side? The rebel side or the government side, it
makes no difference to me. Let them kill
one another. The planet would be better
off, if there are lesser people consuming the limited resources of mother
earth.
But we are of the same tapestry of clothing. Somewhere, somehow, we are all
connected. An injury somewhere is felt
by everybody else. History is written by
ripples and tides. I read somewhere that
a simple flapping of wings of a butterfly could cause a thunderstorm somewhere
in the planet. And if such is true, what
more of killing and murder?
Sooner or later, the killings in the Middle East will
spread and infect the planet. It is best
to deal with it right away than try to contain it later when the unreasonable
killing have spread like a wild fire – directionless and sense less.
Will it be a clash of civilizations? Will it be a clash against Islam and
Christianity? Will it be a clash against
reason and insanity? Nobody really knows
directly. While there are doves and
hawks on both sides, the thinking and action are still out for determination. Whose version of reality will prevail?
Yes, we are responsible when we do nothing and say
nothing about the killings, murder and massacre that are happening around
us. In this era of social media, a
thunderous roar of protest and howl must be heard. People are dying and we are doing nothing.
When your next door neighbor starts killing one another,
what are the chances that it won’t affect you in one form or another? At the
very least, a concern and a simple gathering of data and a simple elicitation
of comment would do wonder in calming yourself that such is an isolated event
and such would not affect your own household.
Reality however will tell and show that such is a
fallacy. That such is the farthest thing
from reality and that the percentage of you being affected is more serious and
reasonable than recently concluded and prayed.
Put an end to the senseless killings in Syria. Do something.
Anything.
